The NY State League of Humane Voters currently has three bills pending at the NY State legislature:

1) Home Rule for Trapping (A0477 Englebright and S05423 Serrano)
2) Canned Hunt (A06788 Glick and S03223 Kruger)
3) Shooting Contests (A02559 Glick and S00845 Marcellino)

All bills passed out of the Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee.

The NY State Senate is currently deadlocked in a leadership dispute and no action is currently occurring in the Senate. When the dispute is settled and the senate resumes normal operation we shall advise you of calls to make and actions to take.

  1. What is the realistic chance of any of these being passed and signed into law? Paterson appears to be very anti-animal. I have written at least three letters to him (all polite, one congratulating him) since becoming governor and not one has been answered. Even if they pass the legislature (not a given), what are the chances he will sign them into law. After the Guillibrand fiasco and other moves, he appears to want to pander to the upstate guns and killing crowd.

  2. The NY State Legislature has adjourned for the year. We will resume where we left off in January of 2010. Paterson will not veto bills passed by both chambers based on his personal feelings.

The gun lobby has no hold on Paterson, Gillibrand's father is a multi-billionaire and offered to bankroll Paterson's campaign in exchange for his daughter's anointment.

The Gun-lobby controls very few local politicians.
